There were shocking scenes Tuesday night when a group of teenagers attacked other young people in front of terrified passengers on the Luas in Parnell Street.
In footage seen by Dublin Live, a gang of teenagers with bikes and scooters can be seen attacking other young people on the platform at the Parnell Street stop.
Several young people are thrown violently against the signs or the tram which is stopped while terrified passengers watch the fight.
The scene ends with the gang dispersing.
The gang, some of whom carried knives, boarded the Green Line Luas at the Parnell Street stop shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The tram driver quickly alerted Gardai as some passengers tweeted Luas’ Twitter account saying they were “terrified” and pleaded for urgent help.
The Luas account responded quickly, saying, “Our staff are aware and the Garda has been contacted.”
A garda spokesperson confirmed to Dublin Live that they witnessed the scene, but the gang fled before they arrived.
He said: “Gardaí was alerted to an incident of young people on the Luas Line at Parnell Street in Dublin earlier today, assaulting a youngster on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at around 5:40 pm.
“A number of Garda units attended the scene and the young people dispersed upon their arrival. Investigations are ongoing.”
Dublin Live has contacted operator Luas Transdev for a response.
