Montgomery County Theater Horizon announces return of live performances in fall 2021 – timesherald

NORRISTOWN – Theater Horizon, an award-winning professional theater company based in Norristown, is excited to announce its return to live performances with a 2021 line-up that celebrates the community and the joy that comes with theatrical experiences. The company has worked hard to ensure the health and safety of members of the public, artists, staff and community members after 18 months of their Horizon at Home digital offerings.

“We are delighted to welcome our guests back to our theater in Norristown,” notes artistic director Nell Bang-Jensen. “With the unwavering support of our incredible audience members, artists and staff, we are able to celebrate the Horizon community this fall with two new offerings. We can’t wait to see everyone safely in the theater.

Our Norristown Story Circles

Theater Horizon continues to work on one of its most ambitious projects to date: Our Norristown, a three-act play with original music by the Philly-based artist collective ILL DOOTS in collaboration with Norristown, Residents involved throughout the development process. In the summer of 2022, Theater Horizon will present an outdoor performance on, by and for the people of Norristown. Building on the practices and aesthetics of the Public Theater public works program and the 30-year legacy of the Cornerstone Theater Company, Our Norristown will deliver an original performance that is both rooted in the community and in the height of the high bar of artistic rigor set by its main artists and Theater Horizon.

In October, Theater Horizon is looking for members of the Norristown community to participate in the initial phase of the creative process by joining a Story Circles series on Wednesday, October 20: 6-8 p.m. or Saturday the 23rd. Theater Horizon’s Holiday Spectacular: A Gathering Celebration

Theater Horizon is thrilled to reopen their theater doors just in time for the holiday season with a curated evening of much needed music, poetry and laughter hosted by Philadelphia Theater icons Brett Robinson and Alex Bechtel. Join Theater Horizon for their first in-person production after nearly 18 months of virtual programming as beloved actors, musicians and community members celebrate the holiday season with this original variety show. The Holiday Spectacular, directed by Bang-Jensen, will bring audiences back to the Theater Horizon to celebrate community and a world in which we can come together once again.

The performances are Friday December 10 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday December 11 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday December 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $ 25. A limited number of $ 2 tickets are available for residents of Norristown (Norristown tickets must be reserved by phone and require proof of a Norristown postal code). Discounts for artists will also be available.

Masks and vaccines required

In order to protect the health and safety of patrons, community members and performers, Theater Horizon is joining with regional theaters in Philadelphia in demanding that audiences be fully immunized and masked throughout all performances of the Holiday Spectacular.

Ticketed members of the public must show full proof of vaccination, along with photo identification, when entering the space. Forms accepted for proof of vaccination include one of the following in combination with a valid photo ID:

Additional security measures

Theater Horizon follows all CDC, state and county requirements for COVID-19. They updated the theater ventilation system, using MERV-13 filters and increasing the airflow from outside. The hall has several disinfection stations and the space will be thoroughly cleaned after each performance.

Theater Horizon is asking customers who are not feeling well, showing symptoms related to COVID, or who have come in contact with someone with COVID-19 up to 14 days before a performance, to stay home. For this production, Theater Horizon has adopted a flexible refund policy for those who cannot attend due to COVID-related reasons.
