Glastonbury viewers left baffled as Sir Paul McCartney ‘covers’ ‘postcode lottery song’

He played a moving set lasting over two hours on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, including Beatles and Wings classics such as Hey Jude, Something, Lady Madonna, Let it Be and Live and Let Die. However, some fans were left confused as they thought Sir Paul McCartney had added a bizarre “cover” to his lead performance.

Sir Paul took to the piano to sing Let ‘Em In, which many people now recognize as the song from the People’s Postcode Lottery advertisement. Let ‘Em In is a song by Paul’s rock band Wings from their 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound and the version in the ad is by soul singer Billy Paul from 1977.

With the lyrics “someone knock on the door, someone ring the bell”, the song is part of the People Postcode Lottery’s Knocking At Your Door campaign. @kelsreeves tweeted: “I just asked my husband why Paul McCartney was singing the postcode lottery commercial. I never knew it was a real song.”

@afashionoddity tweeted: “Paul McCartney covering the postcode lottery ad is the highlight of his glasto set for me.” And @emmixbowles wrote, “You’re lying if you didn’t think Paul McCartney was playing the postcode lottery theme song.”

The Beatles legend performed an emotional set

@DFTPNK02 admitted: “I was years old today when I found out the song Postcode Lottery was originally composed by Sir Paul McCartney.” And @theSOWilliams wrote, “I found out today it was a Paul McCartney song.”

@jonathanland91 asked: “How did I just realize it was @PaulMcCartney who originally sang the @PostcodeLottery song? They say you learn something new every day cause I never realized it was Paul McCartney singing the Postcode Lottery music.”

@hannahosmoxf tweeted: “Paul McCartney singing the postcode lottery song and me saying someone rings the bell automatically.” @SSchiavo123 asked, “Lol was that the postcode lottery song??” And @laurarichardso1 exclaimed, “I was years old today when I found out the postcode lottery song was by Paul McCartney! I’m ashamed I didn’t know!”
