Briefs Weekender: Celebrate Homecoming, attend a burlesque show

Thursday October 7

Scream Like Hell Pep Rally 6:45 pm to 8 pm, hosted by the Alumni Association and gathering on College Green, 47 E. Union St. Gather for this popular reunion party and shout your Bobcat spirit in preparation for Saturday’s game. The Marching 110 will also be performing.

The Wastemen with Blvck Hippie and Rat Motel at 8 pm, hosted at The Union, 18 W. Union St. Discover live music from musicians from Athens, Memphis and Columbus. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Friday October 8

ABC Players presents Radium Girls at 7:30 p.m., at Stuart’s Opera House, 52 Public Square in Nelsonville. Watch actors fight corporate greed, quackery and family crises as women fall ill while employed as painters of radium watch faces. The show will also be presented on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Admission: $ 8 for students, $ 12 for adults

City of sound: Documentary Studio by Dave Grohl at 8 p.m., hosted at Donkey Coffee, 17 W. Washington St. This documentary follows Dave Grohl as he reveals the interior of the Sound City Recording Studio.

Goddess Collective Burlesque presents “Corsets & Curses” at 8 p.m., hosted at L’Union. Discover this captivating burlesque set.

saturday 9 october

Athens Farmer’s Market at 9 a.m., hosted by Athens Farmers Market, 1002 E. State St. Shop for locally grown and produced food and produce at the Farmers Market. The market accepts SNAP and credit cards. Masks are recommended and social distancing protocols are in place.

Reunion parade at 10 a.m., starting at Ohio University parking lot # 154 and ending at the intersection of Park Place and University Terrace. Take advantage of this annual tradition that brings together current and former Bobcats to celebrate homecoming. The parade will also be broadcast live for those who cannot come.

Student Affairs Tailgate Homecoming at 11:30 am, organized at Pepsi Tailgreat Park. The celebration continues with free food, games, prizes and Ohio-themed entertainment.

Fall color hike and tree identification 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., from Burr Oak State Park Nature Center, 10220 Burr Oak Lodge Road in Glouster. Wear sturdy boots during this 2.5 km hike, as participants will use leaves and bark to identify different trees.

Cinema night with the donkeys: Miles Davis’ story Documentary at 8 p.m., lively at Donkey Coffee. Watch a documentary that takes a closer look at this artist.

DJ B-Funk and DJ Barticus present BANGERS at 8 p.m., hosted at L’Union. In a collaboration between the two DJs, guests can only expect firecrackers all night long.

Sunday 10 October

Artistic overture by Charlie Haskins 4 pm to 6 pm at Casa Nueva, 4 W. State St. Attend this reception to celebrate the new art hanging at the Casa. Free Casa aperitifs will be provided with live music from The Corndoggers.
