15 Minute Live Performance: Jordan Hawkins

Back in June, rising R&B singer-songwriter Jordan Hawkins gave us a look at what a typical day in his life looks like. The North Carolina native’s experience isn’t like your usual entertainer. Before delving into the depths of music, Hawkins worked in finance with the goal of becoming an investment banker.

But, like all good plans, life sometimes gets involved. Hawkins, who began singing as a child in his church choir, draws inspiration from a number of multifaceted artists, including Prince, Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer. After moving from North Carolina, Hawkins now resides in Los Angeles and recently released her debut EP, The heart won’t stopwhich is a strong sign of the future of this rising artist.

Accompanied by Stari on bass, Charles Nutrivore on keyboards, and Hawkins on guitar and vocals, the trio, collectively known as NAIVE, performed an intimate three-song set. In it, they showed the chemistry that will be talked about in the not too distant future.
